Video Game Attack Reviews: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate

Castlevania has one hell of a storied history. The Belmont family has been fighting the undead, vampires and werewolves since 1986 in the video game world. In Castlevania: Lord of Shadow Mirror of Fate we have a direct sequel to Castlevania: Lord of Shadow that starts some 25 years after it’s conclusion. You are Trevor Belmont, the son of Gabriel Belmont who was the destroyer of darkness, but was then consumed by what he was entrusted to destroy. How does Castlevania stack up on the 3DS? Let’s see.

Video Game Attack Reviews: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

The storied past of Metal Gear is one of conspiracy, governmental abuse and deep thought out characters as well as plots. The series itself has spawned the covert ops style of gaming that many of us have enjoyed over the years. One of the most well known characters of gaming, Solid Snake, has been a mainstay in the series since its early days on Nintendo and now the torch is being passed. Raiden has been handed it and is running in with swords swinging. As we learned from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Raiden has a new cybernetically enhanced body and is now a cyborg as has become the norm in private military companies, otherwise known as PMCs. Fast forward 4 years from the end of MGS4 and we are in a world where the Patriots no longer hold any control, where PMCs have become a viable business and where cyborgs and cybernetic enhancements are commonplace. Does Metal Gear Rising stack up next to its long line of predecessors? Does it hold up as far as action or strategy games go? Here is your review.

Video Game Attack Reviews: DmC: Devil May Cry

The story of Devil May Cry is always one that draws interest. The game series was originally made by accident when they were attempting to make a new Resident Evil. They spawned this amazing hack and slash demon game and are now at a gracious 5th installment. We know Dante, we know Vergil and we know Mundus, we know the whole ordeal. What we didn’t get to witness was how Dante and Vergil fell apart, how they differed in both opinion and action. How was Dante when he was much younger and when did he unlock his true potential? How did the world fall into a seemingly infinite chaos and how are the twin Nephilim are intertwined within this story? Here is your DmC review.

Skyrim has been one of the best games of 2012 and after the release of Dawnguard and the story of vampires vs hunters (more importantly you get a crossbow), Bethesda releases Dragonborn. Dragonborn takes you to the island of Solstheim where a lot has been going on since the events of Red Mountain and Elder Scrolls III: Marrowind. The first Dragonborn may be on Solstheim and here is your review of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim DLC Dragonborn.

Many games have changed and both failed and succeeded and that is no more apparent than the Far Cry series which has had its ups and downs. Far Cry was a unique entry into the gaming world with its free roam story line that involved mutated monster experiments, mercenaries and a mix of stealth and fire-fighting. Far Cry 2 changed things up, giving you the option to select from several different mercenaries and work with and against warring factions in order to find and kill a target known only as The Jackal. With Far Cry 3, you have the story style of Far Cry 2 mixed with the environment of the original Far Cry. In the arena of open world RPG’s does Far Cry 3 set itself up against the likes of Skyrim? Does it fall flat like Operation Flashpoint? Here is your review of Far Cry 3.

Ruining Resident Evil One Movie/Game at a Time

The real battle is sitting through this.

Have you seen the most recent Resident Evil flick? No? Good. I gave up on this movie franchise years and movies ago. Hell I am nearly done with the damn game series that started it all. It truly pains me to be honest like that because I love the Resident Evil story. The characters, enemies, weapons, plots and twists that were contained within each game were amazing and spawned a lot of great games outside of the RE franchise (think Silent Hill, Dino Crisis). There comes a point though where you do too much, you dig too deep and essentially try too hard. That is what we have seen with the entire Resident Evil movie series and the recent installations of the game series. It pains me, but they need to stop. They need to let this franchise end temporarily and here’s why.

The Hitman series has been a favorite of mine for years. For the same reason I enjoyed Splinter Cell, this series allows you to be the silent hunter who can go along with their mission however however you decide to dictate it. It has been 6 long years since our last Hitman game and since then they released a movie that we all quickly forgot about. Can Hitman: Absolution improve on the previous titles and extend the storyline of Agent 47? Here’s your review.

Video Game Attack Reviews: Risen 2

Many games take the aspect of Fable or Elder Scrolls and try to dublicate the open world, free choice style that has made both of those franchises a gold standard (minus Fable 3 and Fable Kinect). Many have tried and many have failed, but not all games are utter failures. Many give us something to enjoy or something to enhance future games… think of the game Killswitch, a 3rd person shooter that was for all intensive purposes, God awful. Without it though we wouldn’t have been given Gears of War because Killswitch gave us the cover system with blind fire… we all love blind fire. That brings us to Risen 2. A game that is following up the previous title in story, but with a new character. In this open world game you are the Hero who must defeat the Titans and save the world… or something. Here is your review of Risen 2.
